‘Titan the Robot’ is set to provide some summer holiday entertainment for children and adults alike when he visits the building site of the brand new WTW multiplex cinema in Crantock Street, Newquay at 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday 11 August, to help oversee the arrival and erection of the cinema’s steel girders by construction services company ISG Pearce.

Titan, a seven foot plus animatronic robot who talks, sings, dances and interacts with the audience and who was seen in the Channel 4 Big Brother house last month, will be keeping a close eye on construction activities whilst he entertains and meets members of the public at the new cinema site, where work began in mid-May and where ground works are already at an advanced stage.

The new cinema for Newquay, being built on the site of the former Vic Bars , is scheduled to open in time for the 2011 season. With 600 seats across 4 screens and the latest in cinema technology it will be the second new WTW cinema to be built in Cornwall , following the arrival of the White River Cinema in St. Austell in December 2008.

ISG Pearce, part of the ISG Group whose construction projects include the Olympic Velodrome which the government hopes will be the fastest cycling track in the world by 2012, has welcomed the unusual new addition to its team.

“We have heard good reports about Titan the Robot and are looking forward to meeting him.” says Site Manager Gary Cleary.  “His strength is legendary and we believe he is the first Robot to be involved in the construction of a cinema!”

Members of the public are welcome to attend the free event.
