WTW @ Newquay
News

The return of a cinema to Newquay undertook a major development this week with WTW Cinemas announcing that in addition to their purchase of the former Vic Bars site, they have acquired adjoining land and buildings to increase the overall size of the development in order to improve the scale of the project.

David Williams of WTW Cinemas stated ‘WTW Cinemas are pleased to have purchased the property adjacent to the Vic Bars in Newquay. This will make the overall site significantly larger and the development of this additional property will improve the look, feel and scope of the project.’

Currently work is progressing on the internal strip-out of the Vic Bars in order that the property can be demolished later this year.

Mr. Williams continued by stating that one of the leading specialist cinema architectural companies, NBDA of Cheshire has been appointed as principal architects for the new cinema complex. ‘NBDA’s portfolio of cinemas includes developments in Romania and Cyprus , as well as a considerable number of recent Odeon and Reel Cinemas multiplexes. They are working on a scheme to have four large screens with all the latest cinema technology, making the new cinema one of the most modern in the southwest’, said Mr. Williams.

It is hoped that the plans for the new cinema development will be available for public consultation before being presented to Restormel Borough Council later this year.

The new cinema will bring the big screen experience back to Newquay for the first time since 1995 when the Camelot (now the Walkabout Bar) closed its doors for the final time. Mr. Williams concluded ‘We have been greatly encouraged by the feedback we have already had for the new cinema and it is obvious that residents and holiday-makers alike are looking forward to seeing all the latest films in this excellent location. This is a very exciting project and we are greatly looking forward to showing all the blockbusters in what will be a fantastic new cinema.’
